2017: A Year of Self Discovery Through Self Portraits

At the beginning of the year, I set out on a quest to do a 365 photo challenge. A challenge I have failed to complete several other times. This time I am proud to say not only that I completed it but that my skills have improved immensely. My favorite example of this is in my self portraits. Before this challenge, I hated doing portraits of any kind, especially self portraits. I found them to be boring and stale. However, when you have to come up with a new subject to shoot everyday, portraits are inevitable. I started following some amazing portrait artists to get inspiration and began to see the beauty that portraits can truly have. I started using my self portraits as an outlet of my emotions, a healthy way to deal with my depression might I add. Now, I have to try not to do portraits for every daily photo. These portraits below show the growth of my art and myself as a person. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
